Tonight, we’ll be reading from, "The Island of Dr. Moreau" an 1896, classic, early science-fiction novel, by author H. G. Wells. The novel is the earliest depiction of the science fiction  motif "uplift" in which a more advanced species intervenes in the evolution of an animal species to bring the later to a higher level of intelligence. In this story, a shipwrecked man is rescued by a passing boat who is let on the island home of Dr. Moreau, a mad scientist who creates human-like hybrid beings from animals. This remains one of Wells' best-known works.
